Recreational Boaters of California (RBOC).
For more than 40 years, RBOC has represented California boaters – protecting their rights and helping to maintain an effective Division of Boating & Waterways (DBW or Cal Boating). Each year RBOC reviews all California prospective laws that affect boaters. They help write beneficial laws, oppose bad laws, and ensure boaters’ tax dollars are used for boating purposes.

RBOC has helped save Cal Boating’s existence several times in past years. Other issues that may appear (or reappear) in 2016 include boating Operator Permits, ethanol problems, the copper bottom paint ban, and the Marina Permit plan (which could cost slip renters $100 or more per month in environmental fees). Many plans that RBOC helped to defeat in past years, had they been implemented, would have cost boaters hundreds if not thousands of dollars in new taxes, fees, and expenses, not to mention increased inconvenience and hassle.

Except for a paid lobbyist in Sacramento, RBOC is staffed by 18 unpaid volunteer members of northern and southern California yacht clubs. RBOC requests an annual donation of $15 or $20 from each boater. Every dollar you donate to RBOC results in a direct benefit of many of your dollars saved. Please include a donation with your SJSC renewal. (Your contribution is NOT tax-deductible, as RBOC engages in lobbying efforts on our behalf.)

PICYA Foundation. The Foundation supports the Scholarship Fund ($2,500 for students associated with PICYA families) and the Wheelchair Regatta. Donations are tax-deductible. If you want to deduct your donation, please include a separate check, made out to PICYA Foundation. Indicate on your check how you want your donation allocated: Wheelchair Regatta, Scholarship, or blank, if you’ll let the Foundation decide. Club of the Year points are earned by a club for a total donation of $250 or more. San Jose SC as a club already donates $100 per year to the Wheelchair Regatta, so just a few dollars from a dozen or so members would earn 10 points.

PICYA Yachting Yearbook. The 450-page annual Yachting Yearbook contains information about each of the Northern California yacht & sailing clubs and its officers that is very valuable when planning a club cruise-out, or when cruising (or driving) and you want to visit a particular club. The burgees of all 100+ yacht clubs in Northern California are shown in full color in the
book. A listing of each yacht club’s members and their boats is also included. The price to you is $11.00 if you pick the book up yourself, such as at a club meeting. If you want us to mail the book to you, please add an additional $3.00, for a total of $14.00. The 2016 Yearbook will be distributed in April.
